Nearly 50 years of Rhee Taekwondo in Cairns

Rhee Taekwondo first opened its doors in Cairns in 1975.

 

Rhee Taekwondo Cairns has six centres that service the Cairns Region. 7th Degree Regional Master Instructor Len Reilly and his two 5th Degree Assistant Regional Master Instructors Allan Durnin and Wayne Brooks, trained directly under World Master Chong Chul Rhee and oversee the operation of Rhee Taekwondo Within the Cairns Region. 

Each centre is run by expert instructors who provide a safe and fun environment where you can develop your skills as a martial artist and improve your fitness level at the same time.

7th Dan - Regional Master Instructor/Chief Grading Examiner Cairns Region

Regional Master Instructor and Chief Examiner for Far North Queensland Len Reilly (7th Degree)

 

RMI Len commenced training in November 1975.  He was the first student to walk into the hall on the first night the Cairns classes commenced. 

After four years of hard training and perseverance he was promoted to 1st degree black belt on the 17th September 1979 by World Master Rhee (Certificate No 304)

His involvement in Rhee Tae Kwon Do has spanned across 49 years and in November 2022 He was promoted to Regional Master Instructor and Chief Examiner for Far North Queensland by World Master Chong Chul Rhee.

 Over the last forty years he has taught various classes in Cairns and Far North Queensland from Mossman to Innisfail promoting hundreds of students to black belt and producing some of the highest standard of instructors.

Rhee Tae Kwon Do has been a way of life for RMI Len and he states World Master Rhee has been the greatest Instructor and mentor and feels privileged to have come through the ranks under his guidance.

Assistant Regional Master Instructor Wayne Brooks

Wayne Brooks – joined Rhee Taekwondo back in 1987, under Regional Master Len Reilly, ARMI Wayne, trained with Master Len for approx 3 years before starting to instruct the centre at Edmonton masonic hall, then moving to Redlynch hall and then back in to take the Cairns training centre for approx. 14 years.

ARMI Wayne was promoted to 2nd dan in 1995, before having to move around to follow work. ARMI Wayne continued to support and promote Rhee Taekwondo, returning to Rhee Taekwondo approx. 2 years later to start instruction again and assist with promotion of Rhee Taekwondo.

 

ARMI Wayne's son Jett Brooks, had then joined the ranks as a beginner and started his journey in Rhee Taekwondo, ARMI Wayne was promoted to 3rd Dan back in 2014 then to 4th in 2018.

 

 World Master Chong Chul Rhee promoted ARMI Wayne to 5th dan Assistant Regional Master Instructor, in Aug of 2023, ARMI Wayne is now a direct assistant to Regional Master Len Reilly. ARMI Wayne has a total of 36 years of Rhee Taekwondo experience and Knowledge. Armi Wayne is now the chief instructor for Manunda, Whitfield & Redlynch Centres.

Assistant Regional Master Instructor/Secretary General Allan Durnin

Allan Durnin is a dedicated martial artist and a prominent figure in the world of Rhee Taekwon-Do, holding the esteemed rank of 5th Dan Black Belt.

 

With a rich history in the discipline, Allan serves as an Assistant Regional Master Instructor (Bu Chong Kwan Jang) and fulfils the role of Secretary General for the Far North Queensland and Tablelands regions, showcasing his commitment to the growth and excellence of Rhee Taekwon-Do in the local community.
